| Name: | Doctor Lucrecia Crescent |
|---|
| I wish I could start over |
Character Name: Lucrecia Crescent Series: Final Fantasy VII Gender: female Age: physically, she's about 30, in actuality she's 60 Species: human Sexuality: straight Appearance: Lucrecia has long brown hair pulled up into a high ponytail. Her bangs are a little messy, partly covering her left eye. Both sides of her face are framed by the remaining length of her bangs, flowing down nearly to her chest. The top of the pony tail is wrapped up in an old yellow cloth that has begun to visibly deteriorate. Her eyes are a deep chocolate brown and usually warm and kind or scared and frightened. Living in the mako crystal for thirty years has caused Lucrecia's clothes to deteriorate. So she no longer wears her lab coat, shirt, and skirt. The only parts of her normal attire that remains are her necklace, anklet, and shoes. The fabric on her clothes deteriorated into basically scrap cloth wrapped around her body to form loose clothing. |
Personality: Lucrecia has a huge guilt complex. She blames herself for everything that went wrong over the course of her life, from the death of Dr. Valentine to the death of Vincent, and everything in between. Being a scientist, Lucrecia is extremely dedicated and has a penchant for putting her entire being into a project. She's been known to block out everything around her in favor of her research.. She's very good at convincing herself of things, having built herself a world within her mind during the mansion time. She's a kind and genuinely caring soul, though she has a tendency to believe only what she wants to believe, and as such usually convinces herself that if she doesn't like it, or that it isn't real. She does have a good heart and only wants things to be okay, but oftentimes doesn't believe that she deserves that happy ending, not after everything she did. She's also persistent. Where Hojo would have given up and called things impossible, Lucrecia would keep at it, putting everything she had into the project until she got a true answer. She was like this when researching Chaos, which proved to be a good thing years down the line. When it comes to Vincent, Lucrecia has an extremely difficult time dealing with the past. She wants him to be happy, believing that she is not part of that happiness. The time he spent visiting her in her cave confuses her, as she doesn't understand how he could willingly spend time with the remnants of the person who ruined his life. At the time she finds herself in Manhattan, she has yet to come to terms with her past, so she's still quiet, with eyes averted. Abilities: Lucrecia isn't a fighter, but she still has Jenova inside her, though the Geostigma inflicted upon her is much, much weaker and much less progressive as a disease. She's very intelligent and can usually figure out the answer to almost any scientific question or thesis. She's also persistent with her research and won't stop until she has a solid answer. Weaknesses: Her own mind is her greatest weakness. She's very good at doubting and guilting herself. If something goes wrong, she will undoubtedly blame herself and the light inside her is very, very faint. She's not a very social creature. Having lived for so long in the ShinRa manor and then spending thirty years locked up in a mako crystal, Lucrecia's social skills are null and void. She's not very good at expressing herself and has a hard time dealing with things that go wrong, having a tendency to think the worst of everything. Manhattanite or outsider? outsider |
Lucrecia first worked for ShinRa alongside a scientist named Dr. Valentine - this was Vincent's father. She was working on a theory she'd run across in the Ancient's texts - a theory about Omega and Chaos. Supposedly Omega was the final liberator of the planet - when the planet knew its time was ending, it would call forth Omega. Omega would draw together all of the spiritual energy in the planet, drawing it into one pure lifestream that could be taken away from the dying planet, to be reborn elsewhere - Chaos was designed to be the destructor, to purge the lifestream of any impurities when the time came. No one believed her except for Dr. Valentine - so in an effort to prove them all wrong, Lucrecia tried to speed up her research on Chaos, to the point of cultivating the Chaos gene itself in the laboratory beneath the ShinRa mansion. Chaos, being a creature of destruction, was not easily contained and something went wrong that day. In an effort to save Lucrecia's life, Dr. Valentine pushed her out of the way of Chaos' attack, succumbing to it himself and eventually dying from it. Lucrecia had come to see him as a father figure and she blamed herself for his death, unable to cope with the fact that she had caused it, and that it had happened at all. It was only made worse when she was assigned a Turk, someone to protect her - she didn't know who until he came to see her and told her his name was Vincent Valentine. He had no idea about what happened to his father, or even that his father had worked at the ShinRa manor with Lucrecia. She wasn't about to tell him. Looking at Vincent was hard for her. His eyes were the exact same as his father's - so every time she saw Vincent, she saw his father in him. Of course, this brought back her memories of Dr. Valentine's death. She tried to make a friendship happen between herself and her body guard; she really did. But one day, Vincent surprised her. He came into the lab while she was out and discovered a file on his father... a file that spoke of her working with him. She denied it, said it was none of Vincent's business, and refused to talk about it. Not long after that, she went over to Hojo. Her mind couldn't handle the stress of remembering Dr. Valentine at the same time as being near Vincent and she couldn't talk about it. So being near Vincent and friendly with him just wasn't going to happen, not now that Vincent knew she'd worked with his father. Having made her decision, she had to go through with it. Something in her mind had broken and she had to make herself believe that she had no feelings for Vincent, that she only loved Hojo. Enter Jenova. Because Jenova was believed to be an Ancient, the doctors of ShinRa wanted to genetically alter living people by injecting them with the Jenova cells. Eventually, they put up the idea to try an inutero experiment. Lucrecia was the only female, so of course she had to carry the child. It's revealed in the original game that Hojo was the father. Lucrecia got pregnant and Jenova was injected into herself and the child. Thus, the Jenova Project was born - Jenova Project S. The child's name was Sephiroth. Since no one had been introduced to Jenova before this, or any Ancient's cells for that matter, no one knew what kind of reaction the body would have to said cells. While Lucrecia was pregnant, she grew weaker and weaker. Jenova was taking its toll on her, messing with her body, showing her visions of what her son would do when he grew up, and generally making a mess of her physical and emotional states. Sephiroth was born, but Lucrecia was never allowed to hold him, take care of him - nothing. He was taken away because he was to be the prodigy, the perfect soldier for ShinRa. Of course, not being able to see her child didn't help Lucrecia's mental state. Not long after Sephiroth's birth, Vincent and Hojo had a bit of a disagreement. Vincent had protested the Jenova Project vocally when it was first tossed around, though Lucrecia herself shot him down on that one. This next disagreement between Hojo and Vincent showed that Vincent really did care about her, possibly even loved her. Hojo decided Vincent wasn't worth keeping alive and shot him. As Hojo was standing there laughing like a maniac over Vincent's slowly dying body, Lucrecia came into the room. And the rest of her sanity pretty much fled then. She didn't take it well, but at least it opened her eyes. Hojo got a hold of the body first though. Lucrecia took this failed experiment, not wanting to see Vincent die and finally allowing herself to realize what she'd felt for him all along. Since the other beasts created a stronger body, better stats, and an agelessness to him, Vincent's body was now the perfect candidate to host an even bigger problem, which was his only chance of living - Chaos. It took a long time and even when things seemed to be going okay, or at least in the right direction, it was wearing on Lucrecia's mental state. And of course, there was still Jenova eating away at her. She ended up not being able to stay to see if her little experiment worked. Lucrecia locked herself away in the cave where she'd first discovered the Protomateria, the materia that would calm Chaos, the materia that would later allow Vincent to control Chaos. The Jenova in Lucrecia's body would not allow her to die, so she did the next-best thing - sealed herself up in a crystal made from the planet's spiritual energy. She was tied to the lifestream, dead in all the ways that mattered. Thirty years later, she actually woke up, mostly healed and actually alive, in a place that looked nothing like anywhere she'd seen... |
